Offen times Real Estate Brokers & Agents are asked about how they are compensated or paid. It is typical, as a normal cost of sale that a seller pays the Brokerage fees/commissions on the sale of a property and these fees are split between the Brokerage representing the seller and the Brokerage representing the buyer. If you are receiving representation as a buyer there is no cost to you for this representation.  As a seller it is typical to pay the above mentioned Brokerage fees when selling your property. We are often asked the policy regarding reduction of commissions. In California the amount or rate of a real estate commission is not fixed by law. They are set by each Broker individually and may be negotiable between Seller and Broker (real estate commissions include all compensation and fees to Broker).
